Will I be able to get full resolution (1280×720 or 1920×1080) using an HD LCD computer monitor with a laptop through a VGA cable connection?
I have heard that using a VGA cable will not fill the HD monitor’s screen, because it is analog, is this true? So the resolution would be like 1024×768 rather than 1280×720 (kind of like using an old VCR with an HDTV).
Just for your information, the computer is a Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook with an ATI Radeon 1150 graphics card that only has a VGA output.

VGA is capable of up to 2048×1536 resolution, so yes VGA can do 1920×1080.
While most HDTVs that are VGA-equipped do allow you to go the full native resolution of the TV, I have seen some HDTVs that limit the resolution you can do with VGA.
But if VGA is all your laptop has got, then that is what you must use. So give it a go and see what happens.
Good luck!
