Check Out HD Monitor Reviews Here

I am planning on mounting two 22” TV’s to the wall above my bar and connecting one DirecTV High-Def receiver to them. Do I need to buy a TV or can I just get a monitor? does the receiver act as the TV tuner card? (I have sound coming from other speakers)

I had DirecTV installed about two months ago with the whole home setup using a SWM/Deca configuration. SWM (Single Wire Management) is nice as DVRs now only need one wire as opposed to two. The Deca box is whats used to network all your boxes together and access MRV(Multi Room Viewing). I have an HR24 and two H25′s all networked. The pros with the H25 are its small footprint, its ability to work in RF or IR, and its a bit faster scrolling through the guide and changing channels than previous receivers. The receiver is wall mountable and very small so you can hide it and use the RF option with your remote if you have no line of sight.

Now for the bad, and these are quite frustrating. All recordings are stored on the HR24 DVR. In the last two months I’ve had problems with both H25′s losing connection to the Deca whole whome network. The H25s just wont see the HR24s playlist at all. The only solution is to reboot the H25 then it works fine and can see the playlist again.

The other problem is that the H25 sometimes becomes completely unresponsive. No remote control commands will work nor will the buttons on the front panel work–You can’t even shut it off! Again the only solution is to press the red reset button on the side then it works fine again.

I had these problems on both H25s and on numerous occasions. I’m going to have to call DirecTV and see if there’s a way to downgrade to an H24 or really any older model. With the new HD guide GUI coming out even the slower models should scroll much faster. I think these H25s need a firmware update to iron out these extremely frustrating bugs.

if you have a SWM setup for your directv system. This unit is really small and its super easy to setup. I could not activate it online for some reason, so I had to call DirecTV directly. Whole home DVR was easy to setup, but I had to reset the receiver a few times to get my network to recognize the unit and the DVR hard drive in my living room. built in deca makes easy connections. For those people who think this is buy to own, I don’t think it is, never has been if you buy from legit retailer.

You can also add an RF dongle to this unit for 12 bucks.

BUY THE H25, THIS I COMMAND!

Box has been returned. Turns out Direct TV would not issue an access card for this box since it’s serial number ID indicated it was a leased box which was not returned when it’s original customer terminated Direct TV. J&J, the shipper, agreed to money back but it still cost me 19.99 S/H to get it and $10.85 to return it to J&J. I’d never buy another Direct TV box other than from Direct TV.DIRECTV H25 High Definition MPEG-4 Satellite Receiver *** 2 Year commitment may be required by DirectTV, please contact the seller for details. ***

Yes you can, if:

- The DirectTV HD receiver has a HDMI or DVI output. (the digital HD ones usually do).

- The monitor is HDCP-compliant.

You can use a standard DVI cable, a DVI-to-HDMI cable, or a standard HDMI cable depending on what connectors the DirectTV box and the monitor has.

Hope this helps.
