Many Windows based notebooks are now equipped with VGA & HDMI ports, but no DVI port. Many external monitors are equipped with VGA & DVI ports, but no HDMI port. While the analog VGA connection works, a digital connection works better. As it happens DVI is simply a subset of the HDMI standard.

This cable works great for making digital connections from a notebook with a HDMI port to an external monitor with a DVI port.

I use this cord to attach a Blu Ray player to my 6 year old Toshiba projection TV (720p) which does not have HDMI ports. The picture is very good and the length of the cord allows me to run it through the top of the etertainment center, down the back, and then into the TV.

Pricing these from other big box stores found this to be about 1/3 of the price. Those store will tell you that their product is better, lasts longer, not as much heat, blah, blah. Well…
1) I see no difference in picture quality between this and more expensive brand names.
2) Heat? Off an HDMI>DVI cable. Ummmm, I have no idea what the Best Buy guy was talking about.
3) I can buy this one 3 times and still spend less money.

I use to connect my PC to the TV and the length is excellent, the field is strong, however, should suggest buying “Belkin Audio Y Cable Splitter 1-Mini Plug/2-RCA Plugs (6ft)” with this, because DVI does not transmit sound only video, but in general is just what the doctor recommended me

Im pretty sure that its a HD monitor because dell doesn't even sell a non HD monitor. But none of there monitors say they have HDMI ports. The problem is i want to hook my ps3 up to the monitor and i don't know how to….any suggestions???

Will I be able to get full resolution (1280×720 or 1920×1080) using an HD LCD computer monitor with a laptop through a VGA cable connection?

I have heard that using a VGA cable will not fill the HD monitor‘s screen, because it is analog, is this true? So the resolution would be like 1024×768 rather than 1280×720 (kind of like using an old VCR with an HDTV).

Just for your information, the computer is a Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook with an ATI Radeon 1150 graphics card that only has a VGA output.

I have an old hdtv. It only has component and vga. I have given up and turned to the vga. I was wondering since it is vga maybe I can get a lower end video card that will work just as good when i play games.

Looking for a cheaper alternative to buying an expensive lcd hd tv.
The laptop is a Dell Inspiron, and I’m debating whether I should just buy a lcd hd tv to connect to it when I want to use it for the computer or whether I should buy a flat screen computer monitor and try to hook it up so that I can receive hd tv on it. If I chose that latter, how could I not only watch tv on a computer monitor, but also connect some sort of hd antenna in order to receive hd quality? And is there a difference between a computor monitor that is just a flat screen or one that says that it is hd compatible?

I am looking for an HDTV and so far I’ve found Samsung 2232BW (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8439442&st=samsung+22&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1183160137115) and The Vizio VW26L (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5623471)

I am looking to use the screens for TV/Monitor use. My main concern is that since the Vizio does not have DVI input, the quality from my video card will be degrated greatly. My other concern is that if I get the Vizio, if I still want to record HD content, I will need an HD tuner for my p/c since I don’t think the Vizio could output to my p/c,

My other concern is with the response time, contrast, and brightness differences in the screens. I’m not sure if the differences between the two screens are significant.

Any suggestions?
